“He wanted to show that fate ruled people’s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so that three separate men could each have three wishes from it.”

I had this feeling I had read this story before, the magical monkey’s paw was somehow familiar, yet the characters in the story were anything but. The atmosphere and superstition created in the story really worked for me, the fear of the unknown was very present as well as trepidation. In my opinion, the horror in this piece is more in the way Herbert died, it was so brutal and all because he was greedy and a fool for almost forcing his father to make a wish.

A very good classic horror story with superstition in the mix.
